Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) government has initiated enquiry against District Treasury Officer (DTC), Rajouri for shortfall of stamp papers worth lakhs of rupees, an official spokesman said here Monday evening.
The DTO and Cashier have been placed under suspension, he said.
He said that showing zero tolerance towards the corruption and mismanagement , s government today ordered an enquiry into the unaccounted missing of stamp papers in the DTO, Rajouri.
He said earlier an inspection of district treasury, Rajouri was conducted on September 7, 2020 by the Deputy Commissioner of Stamps, Jammu to ascertain the stock of stamps available in the treasury. The inspection report has reveals that the account of sale of stamp papers has not been maintained properly by the officials there.
As per the report the treasury was found falling short of Stamp Papers worth Rs 50,99,019 upon physical verification of stock and records during the inspection. The mismanagement and dereliction of duty by the staff at treasury office Rajouri has resulted in loss to the state exchequer, the report reveals.
Taking cognizance of the matter government has placed Choudhary Imran Mehmood, DTO, Rajouri and Arif Baigh, Cashier under suspension with immediate effect and regular departmental enquiry has also been initiated to fix the responsibility and bring all those responsible to the book.
